The way I read it that altavista (+ doubleclick) will not accept any other music retail advertising besides CDplus on the altavista.ca website.

More importantly, it looks like, yes indeed, sbx is going to be turned into cdplus.com. I woudn't worry about the halt; happens all the time, whether 'really' necessary or not. Olga

<<What is significant enough about this to request a halt in trading? CDPlus has signed an exclusive advertising contract with DCLK and through them Altavista Canada. Which is exclusive to who? DCLK/AV won't accept advertising from another on-line CD retailer? Hard to imagine. CDPlus won't advertise on-line with anyone but DCLK? >>

CDPLus is announcing officially to SBX, implying the deal with SBX is close because they feel any new CDPlus agreement of size is significant to SBX's business?

The deal is done and they are trying to get through the paper work!!!You answered your own question....We are on the road!!!!1st.mate

Here is one more perspective for you and all WUWT!

I like you am trying to understand the news and would caution folks from reading something definitive about the CD Plus.com deal into the NR. FWIW here are my thoughts.

>>What is significant enough about this to request a halt in trading?<<

It would seem now a matter of both obligation and ethics to inform those who have a special interest in the company of any major developments such as an exclusive marketing agreement with a major internet entity. Since there is a signed deal with SBX to in effect merge, the announcement has as much impact on SBX as it does CD Plus.com. It is obvious that an exclusive deal on the Alta Vista search engine and web sites like Billboard.com and others within the Double Click network is no minor feat. The increased hit to the CD Plus web site will be dramatic and one assumes the sales will increase proportionately. This of course is good for CD Plus.com and SBX.

>>Why the halt?<< To give us all time to reflect upon it before the market begins to trade so we don't have another wild and wooly roller coaster unless after sober reflection the market thinks it is justified.

>>Which is exclusive to who?<< While the NR is not definitive about this I would put my neck out and say that it is an exclusive deal for both companies. CD Plus.com will be on only one Search engine...Alta Vista and Alta Vista will only advertise one CD retailer...CD Plus.com.

>>Is the big deal that the announcement specifically says something like CDPLus is announcing officially to SBX, implying the deal with SBX is close because they feel any new CDPlus agreement of size is significant to SBX's business?<<

By George you've got it! The deal with SBX, while not yet definitive, just got another vote of confidence because the right hand is now letting the left hand know what it is doing. I read into this...with some comfort...that the deal is on track and looking much more like a done deal today!

Will this make the market price rocket! Who really knows!? It might if 100,000 investors now want a piece of the action but I sure don't see the market saying "we don't like it!" This is good news for us speculators who are looking to derive comfort that this deal will happen. This is some of that comfort. I may buy more tomorrow if the price doesn't rocket! I am glad to have averaged down. ;-)))
