How can you suggest that they are going in the wrong direction when they are succeeding as the no. one auctionhouse on the net? I trust their abilities more than your guesswork. LEAVE THE DRIVING TO EBAY!

Jing:

On the surface, it looks like eBay should get into the business to consumer auction market.

But, in many ways, eBay already is in this market, as there are MANY businesses (mostly small) already selling on eBay.

I would argue that business to consumer has as much potential for fraud as person to person auctions.

We know that fraud constitutes a tiny percentage of auctions on eBay. I would be interested in the percentage of fraud from sellers with a 100 or higher feedback rating.

I would think that would be EXTREMELY miniscule.

Here are some things eBay could do to get this "fraud" issue off their back:

1. Allow sellers with a healthy positive feedback to purchase insurance, at 1 percent of the closing price.

2. Show a special symbol for auctions that are insured.

3. Allow people to search only for auctions that are insured (as a search option).

4. Put an area on the web site that lists the Top 100 or 1000 ebay sellers and allows people to bring up those sellers listings.

In effect, these sellers ARE businesses, and my bet is that they are more legitimate than most you would find in the more traditional sense.
