I don't know about insider ownership percentages, however by way of comparison here is institutional ownership as percentage of shares currently outstanding, in a variety of companies, as of 3/28/99: (I will check to see if there are any major changes in this)

General Motors 60%
Eastman Kodak 60%
AOL 58%
Coca Cola 48%
CMGI 48%
The Gap, Inc 45%

Is the float really that small. Amazing. I don't know the floats on the others you've mentioned, but I would expect AOL to be less and less volatile as we move forward.
