Ausdauer, you must be busting a gut not declaring SNDK "the screaming buy before you die stock of the century!"

The only negative was that volume didn't rocket but the MSFT announcement should solve that one. The Lexar news is wonderful. If they don't do anything stupid, they will have earned their 4.x% in options and more.

Glad I bought more even at $27.50. If it dips into the teens because of this crazy market, I'll remember last October and buy still more. For all my negative, "Devil's Advocate" talk in the past, IMHO SNDK has evolved into the perfect "buy and hold" ala MSFT.

Craig

PS My compliments on your foresight re: CE/MP3.

Thread:

I was in a camera store today in Anaheim, CA. They did not have any digital cameras or compact flash. I asked the clerk if they are getting very many requests or questions about digital cameras. She said, "they get them here and there, mostly people looking for those film disk thingeys because they are at Disneyland and they have run out of film." First I have ever realized the possibility of convienence impulse purchases of MULTIPLE compact flash cards by the consumer!! You are at Disney for the week. You fill up your disk with photos. Your computer is back home in Witchita, KS or Tokyo and so you have got to buy a FEW more cards so you can take some more pictures. Beautiful!!!

This chain I found out has over a dozen stores in Southern CA and they only have digital cameras in their home store in Santa Ana. A store named Main Photo doesn't even have one digital camera in their store!! How many more cameras stores are like this in the USA? How about around the world? Sooner or later they will all be forced to get into the business of selling them by consumer demand. I just have had a wonderful revelation:

WE ARE EARLY TO THE PARTY!!! VERY, VERY EARLY TO THE PARTY!!!

Let's kick back for a few years and enjoy the ride. Don't forget to buy on dips when short term thinking investors provide long term money making opportunities.

Aus,

This is what I am anxiously waiting for:
"mp3 enabled Windows CE devices will be the "killer app" for flash memory"

Yes, that's right, your CE machine can play your mp3 files by just using your CF card. Who will win? Korea needs to come on board with their CF mp3 devices. Like in the Beta vs. VHS battle, the format with the most number of cheap devices becomes the defacto standard.

Help me Obi-Wan-Korea, you're my only hope...

But as far as the stock price is concerned, it will be bumpy.

Yes, I expect the high teens tomorrow. EPS growth is not big enough.

What do we do from here? If this is what we get in 1Q99, then 3Q99 and 4Q99 will bed great. But the market can't be assured of that. With an outlook of a flat Q coming up, the stock can't rally. But when word starts to get out that 3Q99 is becoming a blockbuster, the stock can then run.

Guess I'll have to wait till then... AGAIN!!

But remember that this is a still a company that will have to compete in a low margin business. Only with price stability can the company really rake it in.

"SmartMedia cannot compete due to lack of encryption technology"

Aus, correct me if I'm wrong, but what I believe the key point Harari was emphasizing was that SmartMedia cards don't have the built-in controller circuitry, making them incompatible with features such as encryption. It is the built-in controller card that creates compatibility in numerous applications, and also makes possible encasing the memory in a package designed to work with Sony memory stick products.

To me, the telephone conference comments of both Harari and Burgdorf were long term bullish, which, combined with the strong cash position, ought to boost the stock. But, you're right, particularly given the ridiculous reporting by some news media, the stock could go down momentarily. This would be FORTUNATE (with the emphasis on FORTUNE) for long term investors.
