The point is that some read the Bible and see an interesting work of fantasy, others see pure drivel, and a few see the unerring word of God. Arguing that only the latter category approached the work with an open mind, and that the rest of us would hear if we only listened, is tenuous at best. Ultimately the claim of the convinced is that God opened their minds and hearts to the inerrant truth of what, without divine inspiration, would just be one more set of words on a page. An omnipotent deity could call us all if that was the desired end. Since we the heathen are not called, it must mean that we aren't wanted. A good thing, too, in my book. After reading a bit of the Old Testament, I want nothing to do with its God.
