Dave, when G.Lite service is made available by the likes of SBC, any G.lite compliant modem bought at retail should work. Say a modem using LU, ADI, Siemens, STM chips with the Aware G.Lite technology for splitterless ADSL built into them. 3Com is said to be a maker of G.Lite modems...see the Aware site. Thus a modem with Aware's DSL-Lite sitting on shelves in computer stores will have more demand each time a TELCO starts providing G.Lite ADSL service.

After all that is what the G.Lite standard is all about...isn't it? If not, why have a standard if Alcatel's G.lite won't work with any other G.lite?

i think not. alcatel has their own implementation of
dmt adsl which they introduced prior to g.lite. i'd guess
now that its a itu standard, their engineers are working
overtime to introduce a g.lite version.

somewhat murky in all this is the dormant issue of whether
or not any of the dmt adsl players will ever be in court
with amati/ti, who claims to have created dmt, at least
the first ansi std version. awre disclosed that amati/ti
sent a letter back in '96 without any follow thru. awre
own counsel's opinion is that there is no infringement,
which must reassured awre's chip customers...
