International Fibercom Inc. Awarded Additional $10 Million Cablevision Contract
Business Wire - April 15, 1999 05:31
PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 15, 1999--

To provide design for 15,000 miles of system design for upgrade of existing systems to a state-of-the-art broadband network

International Fibercom Inc. (NASDAQ: IFCI) and its Chairman and CEO Joseph P. Kealy Thursday announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, Compass Communications Inc., was awarded an approximately $10,000,000 contract to provide Cablevision Systems Inc. (Bethpage, NY) with design and engineering services.

This latest award augments the contract awarded to Compass in July of 1998, dramatically expanding the original scope of work and bringing the total award under this project to approximately $20,000,000. This project commenced in the fourth quarter of 1998 and is expected to continue through all of 1999 and 2000.

Cablevision serves more than 3.4 million subscribers in New York, Boston and Cleveland. It is committed to a massive upgrade of its existing networks to support the expanding need for high speed internet access, cable based telephony and other high speed multimedia services.

The contracts awarded to Compass constitute an initial phase of this upgrade. Compass will design and provide a computerized model of approximately fifteen thousand miles of Cablevision's fiber optic infrastructure.

The routing and equipment inventory information will be documented using Model IT(R), a Smallworld based, GIS software product designed specifically for the design and documentation of telecommunications networks. Compass provides other, similar and related services to Cablevision under other contracts.

The awarding of this latest contract is indicative of the solid, professional relationship that Compass has developed with Cablevision, one of the largest, multiple system cable operators in the United States.

Based in Atlanta, Compass Communications Inc. is a registered engineering company providing comprehensive mapping, planning, design and infrastructure development services to the telecommunications industry. Compass is a wholly owned subsidiary of International FiberCom Inc.

International FiberCom Inc., through its nine subsidiaries, provides integrated network development services to the telecommunications industries for traditional copper, wireless, Internet Protocol, CATV and LAN/WAN delivery platforms.

Its mission is to be a complete outsource solution, "a one stop shop," for the telecommunications industry; to provide all of the services and products required to build, upgrade and maintain any type of telecommunications network.
