cmchang, re: "reasonable margins". A record company can set up a web download site today for about the same cost as the monthly cocaine bill for a major artist. Their costs of distribution will plummet, allowing for protected distribution at equivalent amrgins with vastly reduced retail pricing. No marketing monster, leagues of promo men nor revenue sharing with Blockbuster.

IMHO, the public will gladly buy EVERY new album from their favorite artist ... if the price is ~$4.00 in "Net Cash". The artist gets his $1, the record company its $2, and all the other players can happily divide the balance. It's a no-brainer.

My next hard drive will be IBM's 22GB monster. Between that and my 4x CD-writer, I'll be swimming in music.
