Ramin, have you had a chance to work on the VW? Maybe it is blazingly fast enough to justify the annoyances you listed in your post. In any case -- at least they delivered it, and didn't tell you you would have to wait another two weeks. If the order was slightly messed up, maybe that means they're working overtime shipping them.

I am pleased that SGI has adopted my advice offered a year ago to change their name to SGI. I think this is a long-term move that shows intelligence in helping them sell some servers. They are rather desperate now to get some profits. I don't know how much I like the new logo. Maybe the little letters are meant to suggest humility.
I notice ads still appearing in SCIENCE. Surely the name change will coincide with a big advertising campagne, and they've probably been delaying the announcement until the VW deliveries caught up to a point where they were ready to stimulate sales.

Finally the last conference call indicated there would be big expenses for ramping up VW production, and there were apparently some glitches in production that probably cost plenty to fix. Maybe the big charges indicate that they have been shipping in large volume. However, somehow I doubt it. I think volume shipments are only starting, and we'll hear about the "last two weeks of the quarter were the most productive" song again. Server sales may lag.

This board always turns silent just before earnings, and then gets real active. SGI might take a nice jump once all the cards are one the table in a few weeks. --JD
