<<Mr.D Long AS far as heading off hesteria/I didn't assume that moi
was gonna get the call to duty..I see from your profile that you know
about troop deployment....So does "bombin billy"here he is having a
Susan day. The thing that I think worries a few old farts is....when
you send support troops/why not send in the assault troops first..This
thing, without worry on my part, might get ugly...I see you are fairly
young...Have you signed up yet? If not... why not...really I,m curious
for a young man's response..I sincerely hope you never get a purple
card...........Have a nice day>>

Mr. Henry8th, AS far as assuming that you assumed YOU were going to be called to duty, I made no assumption or accusation. WHAT I did assume was that certain readers would take such a statement at its face value and begin to rant about the impending ground war.

AS to my military service, I was not aware that a man's honor could be brought into question for being born in an age without a national crisis necessitating more than a volunteer force. All of my high school buddies are now in the armed forces, or have recently been discharged after their tour. I myself was going to join the Navy after high school but I demured to my father's wishes for me to go to college. You see, I am the first generation of my family that will not have seen conflict. The men of my family have served in every conflict since, and including, the Civil War. My great great grandfather served in the Civil War, shortly after having emigrated here from Germany. My great grandfather served in WWI on the fields of France. My grandfather served in WWII and saw those same fields and the mountains of Austria and Germany. My uncles served in Korea, and my father took the place of my uncle in Vietnam, and was stationed outside Saigon during one fateful Tet holiday. No, I didnt volunteer, and at times I wish I had. But make no mistake, unlike certain members of YOUR generation, sir, I would not head for Canada if I got a certain card in the mail. And what makes you think that if the world got THAT hot that the US reinstated the draft that they would stop at retired middleaged men of 49? Sleep tight.
