After Jennie rolled over me the other day and told me to find another horse to ride, I got really upset. Later, that evening I chewed her butt out and told her that would never happen. She just whinnied and walked away from me. Then I took the new air ride saddle, that I had bought her and put it on the fence post next to her old saddle. The one I made with my own hands, just for her. Later that evening, after I had fallen to sleep, she came over and started pushing me with her nose. I finally got up to see what she was doing and she pushed me over to the fence. I kinda figured she wanted to go for a ride and she was trying to apologize in her own way. Well, I grabbed the air ride saddle and went to put it on her back and she moved away. So I picked up the old saddle and she came back. Then I put her blanket on and the old saddle. I then mounted her and we headed off for the hills. After a little while I noticed that she wanted to take her own lead, so I let her. She took me far into the hills and finally we came upon a valley. I noticed right away that she had become very quiet and still. So I started looking around to see what it way that caused her to do this and lo and behold there were more horses in that valley. Jennie then snorted a few times and moved around like she wanted me to get off her. So I got down and she walked away from me towards the other horses. When she got close, she stopped and just sat there. Then the other horses started to come over and they checked her out from one end to the other. It was then that I realized....this was her family. I was touched and it brought tears to my eyes. After all the time we had been together, I really hadn't given it any thought that she might have family out there, in the hills. After a little while this big stallion came over to Jennie and she cozied right up to him. They started galloping all over the valley, just having a ball. Again, I realized this was Jennies daddy and I was so touched that I began to weep with joy, for her. A thought passed through my head and I started walking down to where they were standing. As I got close to Jennie the stallion started to snort. Then Jennie came over to me and just stood there, between me and the stallion and he settled right down. I think Jennie was telling him that I belonged to her. I then took my saddle off of Jennie and smacked her in the rear. She took off and the stallion took off with her. It made me feel good to set Jennie free, she was a good horse and had been my best friend for quite a while. So anyway, I picked up the saddle and started walking back to the ranch. After I had walked out of the valley, I heard this snort and the stallion ran past me and stopped. He looked at me hard and I had this sinking feeling that I might be in a little trouble. Well you know what? He ran back into the valley and returned with Jennie. They both came over to where I was standing and he started pushing Jennie into me. Well, I really did not know what to do, until Jennie started to nose the saddle I had on my back. So I put it back on her and then climbed back into the saddle. She whinnied and snorted to her dad and he did the same back to her. Then he raised up on his back legs, it was a site to behold. Then Jennie started walking, with me in the saddle and she looked back at her dad and let out this big whinnie. He did the same and headed back into the valley. After a while, I said to Jennie lets head for the mountains and catch a sunrise. She agreed and off we went, together, two good friends sharing life's adventures together. I now feel that we have a new friendship, on a new and different level. So let's get on with this adventure, and see where we end up!
