To all who've questioned the impact of pre-installed modems and network cards on ATHM's ability to increase subscribers:

When the MediaOne guy came to install my broadband access, he was in my home for about two hours. He placed a new splitter at the cable entrance point, ran new cable to the room with the computer, installed a network card in my computer, installed the cable modem, and loaded all the software with his laptop. Fully forty-five minutes of his time was spent trying to figure out why my new E-mail address wouldn't work -- the home office had left out one letter in the address. This took several phone calls to MediaOne tech support to figure out.

I think that he could have been in and out of here in twenty minutes if all he had to do was run the cable, and I would have been happy to do that myself if I knew what cable to use. This could have been a purely do-it-yourself project.

When all shipped new computers have pre-installed cards and cable modems, the pace of ATHM's installations should increase exponentially.

Then look out, blue sky.

"Abby Joseph Cohen is still very bullish!"

I always wondered who she was fooling. Abby Howen is a partner at Goldman Sucks! Goldman Sucks is slated to go public in early May. Howen will make double digit millions on the first day of that IPO. What did you expect her to do when the market started tanking yesterday?

Old Sucks announced their IPO just before the July crash in 1998. They pulled it one week before the bottom on 10/6/98. Their horrific timing again this year just further proves that listening to these idiots is hazardous to your wealth. Incidentally, they paraded Howen around last year as the market was crashing in a failed attempt to prop it up for the IPO.
