Nortel Networks Teams Up with Pacific Bell and the San Francisco Giants in the Big Leagues
Nortel Networks to supply data networking and telephony hardware for Pacific Bell Park in San Francisco
SAN RAMON, CA, April 13 /PRNewswire/ - Nortel Networks (NYSE: NT/TSE: NTL) today announced it is proud to be a part of the team, along with Pacific Bell, that will provide the San Francisco Giants and their fans with state-of-the-art communications solutions at Pacific Bell Park, under a Sponsorship Agreement among Nortel Networks, the San Francisco Giants, and Pacific Telesis Group.

Pacific Bell Park, home to the San Francisco Giants major league baseball team starting in April 2000, is named after the title sponsor, Pacific Bell. Pacific Bell is the official Telecommunications and Information Technology Partner of the San Francisco Giants. Nortel Networks will be the prime telephony hardware and data networking equipment supplier to the San Francisco Giants at Pacific Bell Park. At the new US$306 million major league ballpark located in downtown San Francisco, Nortel Networks will provide the Giants with Nortel Networks' powerful portfolio of Unified Networks services in conjunction with Pacific Bell's extensive range of data network services and solutions.

Nortel Networks will work closely with Pacific Bell and the San Francisco Giants to build a solution set for the ballpark that gives the Giants a state-of-the-art communications network.

''Pacific Bell's products and services such as Centrex and its FasTrak(SM) data products family including ADSL, Frame Relay, and ISDN, supported by Nortel Networks' telephony and data equipment, will enable the Giants to create strong communication links between the team and its customers,'' said Ray Wilkins, president, Pacific Bell Business Communications Services.

''The Giants are excited to work with Pacific Bell and Nortel Networks in a triple play to provide a state-of-the-art communications infrastructure for our fans and business partners,'' said Larry Baer, Giants executive vice president and chief operating officer. ''This initiative will enable us to communicate with our fans in the most efficient and customer-friendly manner.''

Pacific Bell Park is the first privately financed major league ballpark to be constructed in more than thirty years. Located in San Francisco's China Basin area, the intimate 41,000-seat ballpark incorporates the style and ambience of traditional urban ballparks with state-of-the-art technology. Pacific Bell Park features an asymmetrical playing field with a short right field fence (307 feet) that enables homeruns to land in the San Francisco Bay, year-round children's attractions, specialty food restaurants, retail outlets and a waterfront promenade that allows fans to view the game at no cost through the open archways in the outfield fence. Pacific Bell Park is on schedule to open in April 2000.

Pacific Bell is a company of SBC Communications Inc.
