David - I hope that you are right about users holding Microsoft accountable. Here is how I see their dilemma. If they tell all of us that Y2K compliance counts, they also have to tell a few hundred million people that they will have to upgrade their software. Not easy. If they act as though Y2K compliance is not really a big deal, they confuse an already confused public. They also have the problem of explaining away any Y2K-related problems that do pop up in their old software. One of my clients is CIO of a huge firm. Microsoft may not think Y2K compliance matters. Arguably, my CIO client might not think so either. But if any of the partners in his firm care and find out that no one has upgraded to 'compliant' Microsoft products (which you and I know do not yet exist) - guess who's career is on the line? At the very least, the big enterprise customers are going to wring Bill Gates's neck if he tries the 'Y2K - gee, it's only a few bugs' strategy. Christine
