Can anybody recap the CC?
TTFN,
CTC

I didn't take notes, but I can offer some impressions.

* Overall, it was a pretty uneventful conference call. Birck started off by mentioning he could probably just replay a recording of the past CC, meaning (I take it) that the quarter tracked more or less according to expectations. There were no real surprises, and this would seem to be reflected in the analysts' reiterations and incremental price target upgrades we saw this morning.

* Like last quarter, Titan revenues were better than expected (all this is in the release, so I won't rehash it). What is encouraging is that order backlog is strong, giving good visibility into the next quarter and second half.

* It was good to hear that Latin America was strong (Brazil in particular was singled out), and that Asia was firming up. There was optimism that Asia would see noticeable improvement starting in the second half.

* New products: field trials of the metro DWDM product this summer. No beta customers signed up yet, but in discussions with several. The Broadband Transport Manager product should see field trials by the end of the year. Birck said that management was tracking the development of this latter product closely.

* Cablespan: More optimistic of the commercial viability of this product, in large part due to events in the cable industry (i.e ATT/TCI). I think we're all still waiting for the cable industry to move at more than its traditional glacial pace....

* A few questions about possible acquisitions. Birck was circumspect, although he said it wouldn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that data/packet networking would be an obvious area in which to make an acquisition. While the size of an acquisition was a factor, it wouldn't be a determinant one. Affirmed that concern over earnings dilution (beyond the first year?) would be a major consideration in any potential acquisition.

That's about it for now. Like I mentioned, there was nothing in particular that really stood out as a major focal point (or, for that matter, point of concern), except, perhaps, for the rather good execution this quarter. I suspect that as the year progresses that there is going to be more and more attention paid on the progress of the new products.

I'd appreciate it if other threaders would add their own commentary, and especially if they could correct anything I may have gotten wrong.

Regards,
Daryl
