Yes it allows them to deliver with less costs. But so can a host of others. They will, therefore, not be able to extract superior margins from the business that they do. If you prefer a comparison to an online broker, take a look at DLJ at $10 billion market cap. Again, they are represented solidly in a number of businesses in addition to retail brokerage.
