Freeus, its my understanding that Dell will send a tech to your home/office only if there is a hardware failure. The hardware has to be the hardware that Dell sold you. No home support for software related problems.

Hey Freeus,

I know the frustration your friend is probably going through but it's kind of like having a warranty on new carpeting then someone drops a bottle of ink on it. I've had my Dell for a little over a year and I've hosed it more than once by installing things like a scanner. I also have the 3 year warranty but because of my background in extended warranties, etc I knew not to inquire about "at home" or even "shop" service. I was tickled pink they talked me through part of the fix and referred me to their web site where I was able to secure the balance. FYI, the man who helped me told me to call back if the download from the site didn't work. I thought it was the slickest and quickest repair I could've hoped for.

Hope all is well at your end!

freeus,
My friend installed a Norton virus and it almost totally blacked out her computer.

That the problem with installing viruses, my friend. If only she'd installed anti-virus software ... <vbg>.

That is so bogus. They have to come out. A 3 yr on site is just that, irrespective of what software you have installed. She should call customer service on that and if they tell her it's her fault escalate the problem up the ladder, even if it goes to MD himself. That is BS.
