For example, Macintosh Applications automatically make use of advanced system features when they are added without so much as recompiling the application, let alone, makeing the kinds of changes Windows2000 will entail. For instance, the networking is done in such a way that when applications written with the assumption that Appletalk was there were run under the new TCP/IP based networking, they did not have to be re-compiled or re-written. IT just worked. On the Windows side, we've had to make many changes to our applications because of changes to the underlying technology that Microsoft decide to reflect in completely new APIs. Whenever something changes on Windows, MSFT creates a new set of APIS. OIn the Macintosh, more often than not, the APIS are written in such a way that the lower level stuff can and does change without having to modify the program (or recompile.) I'm surprised you're not familier with this.
