Chris:

You are probably correct, as I certainly have been too early a number of times in this last year or two. I also appreciate the fact that you provide very cogent reasons for your views. Those reasons make sense to me.

I fully agree with you that A.G. and the Fed are married to the market, and that they will use every trick in the book to hold it up. I am also on your side as far as expecting the market to respond to rising rates. My reasons for thinking the slide is actually slowly getting underway is based on expanding spreads, a tendency for rates to try to push higher, huge divergence between the index darlings and the vast majority of the stocks, and the first serious losses (finally) starting to be felt by the e-traders. I also take some comfort from the fact that the huge money flows that used to buoy both the U.S. deficit/trade imbalance as well as the U.S. stock markets are simply not there to the degree that they used to be (the money is needed at home) and those imbalances are getting larger.
Lastly, for the first time in a long while, a few paltry dollars are actually being made by the shorts. I never thought I would live so long. (g)

Best, Earlie
