Which is precisely my point. It is utterly foolish to assume that an analyst's hold is a covert meaning for a buy, and a buy really means sell. Do that and you will lose. A buy means buy on dips; a strong buy means buy right now; a hold means sell or hold if it's not the analysts's money; a sell means the analyst doesn't expect to ever again be covering the company; and a strong sell means that CEO ran off with the analyst's wife/husband/significant other/life partner/POSSLQ/PSSSLQ.

One down .....

ALTR came in 48 cents vs 44 cents consensus and said sales and earnings growth strong in all areas, especially Japan. Europe weak but expect to turn around this Q.

Q1 score card for semis:

+ve - MOT, ALTR, INTC
neutral - MU
-ve - AMD

Issued projections on Q1:

+ve - LSI, TSM (and guess whom they make wafers for?)
neutral - IDTI
-ve -
