As a Houstonian, I will jump in here. North is built up so far out that you don't find many flowers for a long time. South on 59 or 288 and West on 10 is probably better. If you are traveling the beltway, you will spot some.

Thanks! I tend to go ape over wildflowers, too. CA's state flower is the orange poppy (California poppy), and they bloom along the roadways and in fields most of the spring and early summer. Always want to stop and walk among them.

If you are in the Austin area, you are indeed fortunate. What beautiful country. Haven't been there for a dozen years, but remember it well.

Looks like my view of the internuts correction was all wet. Unless we get a reversal of the reversal tomorrow. <g>
