As I understand it, he managed to get his bogus page to appear on Bloomberg's site. I think that's when he crossed the line from "prank" to "fraud". His intent probably was just a prank, but the casual viewer will associate Pairgain with fraud, especially since he turned out to be an employee. For a small not-so-visible company this is damaging, and in the short term I believe new money is less likely to buy the stock than before. Not that there's a damn thing the company could have done to prevent it. Their damage control has been appropriate IMO.
