All the action is on the RRRR Yahoo board!
Lots of interesting and informative posts about the Rare Medium deal. I don't know why SI investors aren't interested in this one.

Yeah, sold out at 9.5, but not before trying to cancel my limit order -- even I can see a rocket take off, and want to hold onto the tail a bit longer. So much for faith in my convictions!

But I don't need this thread to make me feel like an idiot -- I can do that on my own. I thought -- hoped, even -- that Internet hysteria was over years ago, and in that way lost out on one of the greatest booms in the history of markets. And you know -- it still seems nuts to me! Lotta companies with no profits and no plan for profits.

So now we come to RRRR. I find enthusiasm for it to be at least as nuts. Apollo has the right to buy up to 40% of RRRR -- which will then use his cash to invest in internet companies which for the moment are unspecified in name and type. In short, RRRR is making its 3rd transition in about a year -- from an air conditioning technology to a website developer to a "blind pool". Or to use the lingo of another of history's speculative lunacies, "a company to invest in profitable ventures not yet identified".

To me this isn't the fufillment of a great RRRR plan, but rather a concession that website development alone is not sexy enough to catch internet fire. Heck, that's just money for work. We need something bigger. Dreams! $75M to invest in smoke -- and specifically Silcon Alley smoke which I don't think (unlike it's California namesake) has a *single* profitable public company yet (or was there one? I forget the details of the great Crain's article back in October '98).

So this is the time to invest big! If I was wrong about other internet stocks, I'll be wrong about this one. People will get a thrill, and that's what counts. As long as their's a tiger, there's a tail to grab on to. The hell with substance -- this is the future! the new millenium! synergy!

So good luck, all! You'll probaby make millions. And I'll be stuck with my measily 70% profit.

If only I was that unlucky on some of my other benighted investments...
