My own opinion, but I'm sure we'll hear lots of comments like that when Intel comes out with 64 bit, that "who needs it, theres no applications, a fast 32 bit is better, etc.etc.etc." I still bet they'll sell a whole bunch of em. Who needs big screen TVs or $30K SUVs ? Evidently lots of people.
Intels margins were 59% for the first quarter and they guided to something like 56% for the year so they will make plenty of money in 99. The same can definitely NOT be said for AMD.
