VISX does have some limited competition, but at this time certainly has the edge on everyone else. there are some other treatments that are available but none as effective as the lasik...you can look at orthokeratology or the corneal implants(which at this stage is more in the developmental stage as compared to lasik). orthokeratology involves the re-shaping of the cornea using contact lens...in my opinion, mediocre results
