By God, you're right. I had in my head that firms like E*Trade and Schwab had reasonable (for a generally overvalued market) price to sales ratios in the 2-4 range, which of course they did a few months ago, but I just checked and they are basically in the same range as SIEBs (makes me very tempted to short EGRP too, but it is at least a market leader - resist,resist). By way of comparison, the p/s ratio for Merrill Lynch is 1. Of course they do boring things like internet IPOs and such.
