I think you may be overstating the significance of the announcement. In any case, the content of the page you cited earlier has changed somewhat. It now simply says:

I do not know whether BCST received money from MSFT for this promotion. If so, I certainly have reservations about the propriety of such disguised ads, recounting the recent Amazon fiasco. As you say, "Anything for money".

You also raise the question of exclusivity. Yes, it is possible that MSFT might pay a sufficient sum to make a webcaster concentrate exclusively on its platform. In fact, I think it is probably the wave of the future. However, I have no knowledge that this was done in this case.
