John: I remember articles last year, in which COMPAQ was very upfront about it. It is not a trade secret, and has always been in the numbers. I remember that "hundreds" of DEC client were said to be shunning COMPAQ at the time of the acquisition because they feared that COMPAQ would not be committed to continuing the DEC products or services, or for other reasons. This erosion of the DEC base was part of the calculations. Even so, I think COMPAQ has worked hard at retaining some of the accounts.

There have been other statements in which important groups of DEC clients have declared their satisfaction with and trust in COMPAQ.
