re:The article...
i note it ~did NOT~ mention CT Market Partner being down this morning, and their phone switchboard directed you to a dialtone

further to...

Perhaps one should go to H&R Block - they'll sit WITH you while YOU are being audited.

As for "tax planning" .. there are more creative ways to reducing income <disclaimer: See your accountant for professional advise!>

For instance: Take the capital gains income .. but, in addition - start a business as a consultant. Receive a small commission from a fellow trader, and in return, pay a small commission to another trader .. then, claim everything as BUSINESS INCOME .... it's the anticipation of profits that is generally viewed upon as the deciding factor .. but, a few years of losses never hurts - then, never make money and give up, taking a terminal loss.

Register for GST as an annual filer and, start getting your ITC's back too... but, don't forget to de-register after your first year due to low sales volume under $30000 ... and, use the gst refund as an instalment payment towards your taxes.

<another disclaimer: Of course, I'm crazy, don't listen to me> ..
