If this net thing flew, could those stores be considered as distribution centers.

Shipping prices greatly influence and increase the actual final price to bring an online product to your door. These supposed deals have a habit of increasing dramaticly once taxes, handling, shipping, and sometimes currency exchanges are factored in.

The famous 10 CDs for 1 cent deal from Columbia House turns into a classic example. When fulfilling one's commitment, the next series of CDs becomes quite expensive. Local sale purchases, at a Record Baron, lets say, would be more affordable.

Regional shopping tied in with online sales, cheaper shipping and faster deliveries, might make this work. Not too many website can boast of having 100 distribution centers.
