That's pretty much the case, Charles. At first I was a bit taken aback by the 'RTFM' support replies within the Linux/Unix community. What I've come to better appreciate is that you really need to do some profuse reading to be effective with Linux. You find yourself with 2 linear feet of books, where your whole DOS experience encompassed about 4" of books. The nature of Windows is to insulate the user from the vagaries of the machine. That's the reason why a lot of people want to get into Linux, but in doing so, you bite off the task of making yourself computer literate, where you paid Microsoft to do that for you previously. -JCJ

No. I am saying that I can use msft software without needing to read. The dialogs, for the most part, are self explanatory. So far with Linux I haven't found any dialogs, just self mutilating config files.

I will read the arcane files and figure it out, but it is going to take more of my precious time. A resource I can't afford to squander.
