Ockham's razor is designed to simplify analysis of situations where multiple, equally predictive hypotheses account for the available data.

And here I was thinking it was a shaving implement. Live and learn.

Dear Chuzz, it pains me to point out that you are misusing William of Ockham's Razor. It is meant merely to be a tool, not a world view.

Moreover, the classic example of where it fails is the orbit of planets. The simplest view would suggest a perfect circle rather than the ellipses that, in fact, do obtain.

OK, let's try a little experiment, using Ockham's Razor, we will seek the most parsimonious explanation for complex human behavior (heeheee):

1. Q: Why don't men know where their socks are?
A: Because they are lazy SOBs who know that if they whine loudly enough, the nearest woman will come leaping to tend to them.

That's fun. Let's try it again.

2. Q: What do women want?
A: Pretty much what men want. To be treated with respect. Someone to find their socks would be nice, too.

Hey, you're right, this does simplify matters.

3. Q: Why do people listen to rock music?
A: Because they like it.

Hmmm, Ockham's Razor won't let me put in the part about "pretentious old farts," looks like it cuts both ways. (Kidding!)
