What about having to plug in all proprietary sun stuff as peripherals? Is it like Tandy where the computer cost you 50 cents and the disk drive cost 5,000? The only SUN's I had seen all had SUN this and SUN that for add ons. PS> printers etc.. scads of dough by the time a system is built. You mean 3,000 for the board?

No, I mean $3,000 for the whole workstation. I don't know nothin' about no "proprietary". You can configure an Ultra 10 to contain all off the shelf stuff (even IDE, but that would be silly). Because one size doesn't fit all with 'commodity' configurations, those Ultras can as well contain Creator 3D graphics and the pricier stuff for the higher end needs. You can also install Linux in place of Solaris.

There is significantly less "proprietary" with Sun than a Wintel box. Soon, 'open' will extend to the chip level as Sun publishes the Sparc chip (great move).
