Hi Captain,
A couple of thoughts here. Yes, CPQ has probably (excuse the
expression), missed the boat on getting the monster value
on the IPO. Yet AltaVista is a well known search engine that
is expressing its intention and flashing assets recently acquired.
AV has a tremendous backing in foundation and technology with
continued increase in exposure from each pc sold by CPQ (internet
hot buttons). Depending how management executes the image
of AV (OH NO!), the perception may drive the IPO very high. I don't
believe we will be able to get in on the IPO price anyway so would
not reap the rewards that institutions will derive on the open.
I am thinking the market can separate CPQ from AV and hopefully
will not suffer from the albatross. AV is well respected but needs
to be a touch more appealing to the common user. JMHO

Captain: The number and poor quality of IPOs has reduced their attractiveness. But when was there one the scale and quality of AV? It will more than double in the first week after the IPO.
