With all due respect, that is simply not true. As a matter of fact, their customer support is one of the very best in the business. Dell has their fingers in a number of pies and to dismiss them as "just a box maker" is not wise. It is Michael Dell's stated intention to build a company that is a total "enterprise" solution provider similar to IBM. Compaq has already made the move. They (Compaq) may have stumbled in their execution since they acquired Digital but they have a formidable organization and a VERY large installed base.
