Actually, the average cost of a Dell PC runs about $2,200. They are actually avoiding the sub $1000 pc market because of the low margins.

Respectfully, you are making blanket statements about a company that you obviously don't know anything about. I highly recommend the Dell thread here at SI (if you can face wading through 600 posts a day) for gleaning anecdotal information about the companys' future plans. They have already indicated their intention of getting into the storage area network (SAN) market and have started aligning themselves with some of the fibre channel players.

I do agree with you that, in the short term anyway, serious competition is forthcoming from Sun.
