Jock, When you are short the box and you want to just eliminate the position completely, just call the broker and have him cancel out the two positions. I have never gotten charged for it from Fidelity. In my trading account I short on the margin and buy on the cash and when I want it canceled just tell him to move the cash position to margin...no cost for that...not even a commission. Now they are specialists in most of the stocks I trade so that might make a difference. Good Luck Trading DavidG
