***OT*** >> I love America, it's the best place in the world, but we are provincial dolts!

Jill, Americans have a tendency to seek out our faults and criticize ourselves harshly. I've travelled the world on business and lived abroad as an ex-pat, and never seen another culture exhibit this trait. We have a unique culture based on an embarrassment of riches, a multi-racial/cultural composition, and the opportunity for upward mobility based on talent rather than birth dictated position. We sacrifice our children to defend the freedom of others around the world. We take in immigrants and make them our own. IMO, this is the most gracious and generous nation that has ever existed; our big weakness is that we look at the thin veneer of culture that other nations flaunt and deem ourselves to be inferior.

This burst of patriotism is made in response to several posts I've seen, and not aimed specifically at you, Jill.

Frank

I try not to watch CNBC because it's obvious they're stupid.

LOL... well I think one problem is an assumption that the anchors are business reporters and I don't believe many are. A bunch of cnbc people come from the bay area and they were not business reporters when they were here. For one guy, when he went to cnbc they died his hair grey and gave him glasses. Now hes a "business" reporter. Heh.

For the hedge fund managers I believe cnbc actually has fairly high criteria. They do have Fleckelstein (who is here on SI) and hes a short so his performance is lower - 33% a year I think? or thereabouts - but the long guys have 500% performance in some cases which is more than most individuals can get. I know I know some people here claim to do 20 times their money in 6 mos but that only works with small $$ amounts I find. You can get the bios on the cnbc website.
