The answer: use a Storage Area Network (SAN). Panel members commented on how the movement of video from analog to digital formats has changed their operational paradigm. "Early on, Showtime realized that digital could offer a lot of benefits to us," said Dirk Van Dall, Principal Consultant for Digital Video, Showtime Networks............. In addition to the DirecTV order, Grebow announced that NBC chose a Pro-Bel MAPP Video Network Manager for its facilities at Rockefeller Plaza. The Video Network Manager completes a Pro-Bel MAPP system installed at NBC last year. The Video Network Manager will provide automated control of more than 50 video servers on a Fibre Channel- and ATM-based infrastructure. According to Roger Henderson, Managing Director of Pro-Bel, the NBC MAPP Media Asset Management system can access 64 profiles and incorporates 40 channels of playout. nab.org It would be nice to see the 2G FC spec to handle HDTV soon!
