RTS-Gulf of Mexico rig count up three, worldwide count up one
NEW YORK, April 16 (Reuters) - The Gulf of Mexico offshore rig count rose two as of April 16 to 109 out of a total fleet of 180, contributing to a worldwide net decrease of 1 rig.

The worldwide count moved up one to 458 rigs under contract out of a total fleet of 617 rigs, raising the utilization rate to 74.2 percent, according to Offshore Data Services. The offshore rig count, though, has dropped by 83 rigs over the past six months, leaving about one out of every seven rigs worldwide without a contract.

The utilization rate for mobile offshore rigs working in the U.S. Gulf was 61.1 percent, according to ODS.

The number of working rigs in the European/Mediterranean area remained healthy at 95 rigs under contract. With a total fleet of 107, the utilization rate remained 88.8 percent.
