But, it still exposes our government to the scrutiny of the public and the press. That's the reason that President Clinton cancelled news conferences for a long time. He did not want to be exposed to the free press, where the press would ask embarrassing questions. You can twist the value of a free press all you can, but it doesn't change the fact that we have the freeest and most credible news services in the world. Plus, a lot of stories are backed up with pictures and/or many witnesses. Most people, including myself, question every story, not because the news services are intentionally lying, but because humans are infallible and make mistakes.
