Diamond implies that it will support Microsoft's audio 4 on the Rio. This can be inferred from this statement:

Portable Player and Hardware Manufacturers
''Diamond Multimedia's RioPort.com division is excited to be evaluating the new compression levels achieved in Windows Media,'' said David Watkins, president of RioPort.com. ''Getting up to twice as much music on players like the Diamond Rio will be a big selling point with consumers. We're also very interested in systems that help reduce concerns about piracy, such as the Windows Media Rights Manger, as they will vastly increase the amount of downloadable music offered on the Web.''I got the above quote at: biz.yahoo.com
I wouldn't be surprised if they're working on it right now. What I believe will happen is that they'll come out with a player that plays both MP3 and Audio 4 and for the older rios there will be software that can convert Audio 4 files into MP3. The funny thing going on is that MSFT is joining the ranks of the outlaws(dimd) by breaking away from SONY/BMG/Warner music/Universal who are adopting a Sony/IBM copyproof format.
