HK Tel<0008.HK>to offer Internet enhanced service
HONG KONG, April 16 (Reuters) - Hong Kong Telecommunications
Ltd <0008.HK> said on Friday it would unveil a new Internet
enhanced service in Hong Kong next Thursday.
The company, which has been providing Internet service under
the name of Netvigator for almost three years, said in a
statement it would unveil "a new Netvigator enhanced service" at
a news conference. It gave no further details about the service.
Last month, the local telecommunications giant and Microsoft
Corp <MSFT.O> announced a plan to cooperate to bring to the
market a proposed "Zoom" service, which would offer on-demand
movies, video conferencing, interactive games and other services
delivered via computers and televisions.
Hongkong Telecom shares have surged about 20 percent so far
this month partly on speculation that the company would spin off
its Internet business on the Nasdaq in the United States.
The stock soared HK$1.45 or 8.5 percent to close at HK$18.55
on Friday.
