That's a question that's come up on the SFE thread before -- should the NAV be discounted to take taxes into account? I think not, unless you are looking at breakup value of the company. In fact they may end up holding the assets and still have them appreciate in value, still generate EPS since they mark to value.

If the stock goes from $10 to $100, they will show EPS of $90/17.1 million shares even without selling the stock. Is that a fair way of deriving EPS? maybe, maybe not, but that is how they recognize the transaction.
