TURF is the first web-site to focus solely on Generation Y. With its $95 million, TURF will now commence a marketing campaign. TURF will soon be a household word, much like the GAP. It's a good thing:

Teen Research Unlimited, a Chicago-based marketing research company, said there are now 31 million teenagers (ages 12 to 19) in the United States. By 2010, that number will swell to more than 35 million -- the most ever in that age bracket, far more than the baby boomers at their peak.

Teen spending last year reached $141 billion -- up 16 percent from the year before. Teen Research says the average teen has $94 of his or her own money (or his or her parents') to spend every week. Teenagers account for only about 15 percent of the population but buy more than a quarter of all movie tickets. They rent or buy more than half of all videos. And more than 70 percent bought at least one CD in the past month; more than half bought three or more.

Nowhere is the impact felt more keenly than when it comes to teens and the clothes they wear. In just a few years, Generation Y has altered the face of U.S. retailing when it comes to apparel, accessories and related goods.
