DD : Yes, naughty, naughty! I used to be a chess player in my youth. I learned that strategy involves the whole board, even though the action may be in one small part. I don't believe the real reason for NATO's presence is ethnic cleansing --- as I have said, that's the excuse. Even so, if it was, the airstrikes haven't prevented the cleansing --- on the contrary, they have helped, directly and indirectly by upsetting/frightening the Serbs, to chase people out of Kosova. I can see that the US is having a hard time mounting a military presence in the various trouble spots. Every time there's a problem a whole carrier fleet has to be sent in. This is actually very inefficient and very expensive. Almost like a mobile hospital has to be sent in every time there's an accident. Far better to have a fixed hospital near to where the accident is. Also, NATO, no longer has a purpose and it could break up, thus denying US landing facilities. I also believe that some very smart planners are at work somewhere. Playing computer war games day and night. US is not the only superpower for nothing. I also increasingly believe that Clinton is simply a pawn and was set-up and trapped in the Monica incident for a reason. JFK was assasinated because he didn't want to make war on Cuba/Vietnam. Clinton was character assasinated. When threatened with impeachment he was offered an out --- make a deal with the military/industrial complex. That's why he "transformed" --- from a draft dodging, liberal yuppie who scrapped all military bases and cut military expenditure, when he was first elected --- to a most aggressive hawk, who now wants to make war every month on someone else. Albania is strategically placed to Balkans, Europe, Russia, North Africa and Mid East. In desperate financial straits. Ideal terrain for an underground base in the mountains. Sea port on the Med controlling the entrance to the Adriatic. So, being an old chess player, I can see it is an excellent position to put a bishop or two. But, it would look bad if US simply walked in. They had to be invited in. Which is what happened. Now, the base can be built. Past bedtime! SS
