yes there are industry standards in grading GEMS....but if you take a diamond ring that you just bought for a $1000 but MOST jewelers are not GRADERS...nor are they qualifed to do appraisals...but I am sure that they will tell you they could of given you a better deal...just like an buying a car...

THe point is...everyone has an opinion, about quality. If he was purchasing stones he should of verified the ratings of the grades of cut, clarity, color..etc...

Should of been advertised with them...
