I thought the board would be interested to know that your favorite urologist is too busy these days to be bashing MUSE.

Three groups merge to form Urology Clinics of North Texas
Lisa Tanner amcity.com

One of the Southwest's largest single-specialty urology groups has been created with the merger of three urology group practices.

The new group practice, called Urology Clinics of North Texas, has offices across the Metroplex.

It's made up of:

Urology Specialists & Associates, which has nine physicians based at Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas' campus with satellite offices at Presbyterian Hospital of Plano and Medical City Dallas Hospital;

the group practice of Drs. Ware, Hurt, Goldstein, Frost, Ewalt, Ware & Associates, a six-person group with offices at Baylor University Medical Center and Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas; and

Fort Worth Urology Group, which consists of five urologists with an office in downtown Fort Worth and another in the rapidly growing southwest Fort Worth area.

The groups trace their history to 1948 and have pioneered several procedures in the area.

Although the merged groups cover a wide geographic presence, Urology Clinics of North Texas will look to establish offices farther north and south in the future, said CEO Gary Anderson.

The merger came together in just a year, a fairly short time frame for deals of its sort.

"The doctors were willing to compromise and discuss issues and just get on with it," he said, adding that because many of the physicians involved have known each other for years, informal discussions began before that time.

The group will soon merge information systems, share medical records electronically and work to develop a better understanding of the costs of treating a particular disease state, Anderson said.

The group covers all urology subspecialties, including pediatric urology and kidney harvest for transplantation.

Dr. Pat Fulgham serves as president of Urology Clinics of North Texas.
