He's ok and at least, like Stephen Roach, is trying to see something beyond the public blab that has not changed in 50 years. Like William Poole of the ST Louis Fed, these guys search for integrity. The problem is that they don't understand what is the root of the problem.

Poole today said he could accept an inflation rate 1 to 1.5% lower than it is today. He is supposed to be a hawk and he is saying that some inflation is ok. The machinery that allows some inflation inevitably allows a lot of inflation. It is human nature to inflate the value of your output.

Without a constraint like a free market in money humans will always be able to get away with inflating their value. It is the intrinsic factor driving class warfare. It is the resentment that comes when some are observed to seem to get away with having done nothing. This is called material alienation and Poole accepts a little of this as ok. He claims to be a monetarist. He is a clown and represents why our country wisely got rid of that kind of monetarism. It is the kind that accepts its own destruction because it allows a little evil just to be fair, and it is why the world will go screaming into gold.
