I agree with you on the internet craze. Most of the companies that are actually making money we never hear of. Another factor that people ignore is that many of these businesses, auctions and "new" ideas don't have any special patent protection and they can be easily duplicated. With all the competition on the net, the end result will be savings to the consumer but declining margins to the companies. Niche businesses will do well IMO but consumer products (TV's, stereo, computers) will beat each other to death. You can already see it happening. We're seeing these big internet companies with impressive revenue but losing money or struggling to make a profit. If you can pick the right ones to short you could make just as much money as the investors who rode them to the top :)
